C) Spanish and Culture Program

For over twenty-five years, the Office of International Programs at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara has served students from around the world in meeting their goals of pursuing academic development and improving their cultural understanding of Mexico.

One of the most prestigious programs in the area of international education in Latin America has been the UAG Spanish andCulture Summer Program. In response to the increasing demand for this excellent academic and cultural experience, we now offer it year round, by request, given a minimun of ten participants.

The main goal of this comprehensive program is to substantially raise the
participants’ level of Spanish communication skills and provide a relevant opportunity for cultural immersion through a combination of class work, lecture sessions, field trips and staying with a family.

This particular program consists of 8 levels of Spanish language and several options related to the History and Culture of Mexico. The curriculum is designed by senior faculty members of the university’s International Language Center and the Humanities Institute. The program’s high quality has been confirmed by the excellent evaluations received from former participants as well as its ten years of continuing success.

Spanish
The Summer Program consists of one four-week session of intensive Spanish
instruction (80 hours) whereas the Spring and Fall semesters include 4 sessions (320 hours). Participants complete one level per session. The course is 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.

It offers intensive language skills practice in small groups (maximum 15 students) based on each student’s language proficiency as measured by a placement exam. For advanced students, Level VI provides an Introduction to Latin American Literature while Level VII focuses on Advance Grammar and Spanish American Literature.
