Autónoma de Guadalajara
The
Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara (UAG), Mexicos oldest
private university, was founded in 1935. UAG is coeducational, nondenominational,
and nonprofit. It is independent, autonomous, and not affiliated
with or dependent on any government, church or political party.
The University
is proudly one hundred percent Mexican but also able to emphasize
its focus on international education. UAG is a prestigious comprehensive
university and has some of the best educational facilities in the
country, covering an area of 1000 acres distributed among 4 campuses:
the Central Campus (CU), the Biological Sciences Institute, the
Health Sciences Campus, Continuing Education, plus the four campuses
of the University in the Community (UNICO) as well as two hospitals,
an Experimental Agriculture Center, the Chapala Ecology Station,
a Marine Sciences Station, besides University hotels and the Convention
Center.
UAG has a current
enrollment of 15,000 students, 85% of whom are Mexican while 15%
come from 25 different countries. The institution employs 780 full-time
and 640 part-time faculty with excellent credentials. The University
offers 50 undergraduate majors, 33 areas of graduate level specialization,
20 masters programs and 3 doctorates.
